When starting your guest list, it’s a good idea to get organized from the beginning. Prepare an Excel file with the following headings to keep all of the information in one place.

A-list and B-list
As you begin to add names start 2 lists, A and B (these can be on the same spreadsheet or different tabs of the same spreadsheet).
The A-List are the people who you MUST have at your Wedding. List B are those who you would feel comfortable not sending an invite to if necessary.
When it is time to send your invitations send you’re a-List first. As you get your R.S.V.P.’s back pay attention to how many No’s you receive. If you are getting close to hitting your garaunteed minimum, start sending out your B List invitations in order of importance.
Have friends and family help out collecting full names and addresses for all of your prospective guests.
Make sure that you are consistent in using full names and titles as well as spelling out all cities, states, streets, apartment etc. There should be no abbreviations. Always put two spaces between the state and the zipcode and use appropriate puncuation. House or apartment numbers under twenty should be written out.

If you are not including children be sure to only name the invited guests on the envelopes and you can write the names of the guests on the R.S.V.P. cards for them. If you still get reply cards back with more than the amount you alotted for just pick up the phone and call the guests and let them know that children are not invited (or have a friend or family member do it for you).
If you are inviting children be sure to include “& Family” or name the children on the R.S.V.P. card. Hiring a babysitter to keep the kiddies busy at the reception will be a bonus for you and the parents.
If you are inviting Aunts and Uncles and cousins, and children for that matter, be sure to invite them all or invite none. Extending an invitation to only some will definitely cause some friction and you don’t need any of the added stress.
